Dr. Walger János Association for Animal Protection (Cat shelter in Kaposvár, Hungary)
Our civil society organization was founded in 2017 with the goal to support abandoned cats in Kaposvar and surroundings.
Unfortunately, we constantly experience that in Hungary, but also in Kaposvár animal protection equals dog protection. Cats are always treated as second-class, and this is unfortunately also reflected in the distribution of financial resources intended for animal protection. Although their reclusive lifestyle and small size make them less visible then dogs, cats still need the same level of human care.
Our volunteers have been involved in cat rescue for several years, with their help we have found new homes for nearly 500 cats and we have also helped many cats find new owners as intermediaries.
We take care of an average of 100-140 rescued cats every year. Since our association does not receive any municipal support, the cost of feeding and medical care for the adopted cats is covered by 1% of the income tax, public grants and private donations.
Thanks to the generous donation of our namesake, Dr. János Walger’s son, the construction of our cat shelter has begun, and depending on our financial capabilities, we are trying to create the best possible place for our little protégés.
We ask all animal lovers and people who feel responsible for cats to support our goals. We are grateful for financial and in-kind (food, litter, etc.) donations, too. Every idea, help and cooperation is appreciated.
